Technically "yesterday" (I haven't gone to sleep yet) I visited our newest drop point in Durand, Michigan at the Maytag Laundromat attached to the Valero Gas Station. I was shocked to find all the books have moved already. See previous post to see how many books were dropped off only three day's ago at this location. The image to the left was taken "yesterday".
I've never actually encountered a bare drop point before, normally people bring books as well as take them, however this is a laundromat and considering the books were taken by patrons most likely and it has only been three day's the participants haven't really had time to organically return with donation bounty, if that may even be on their minds.
I was so startled however I went to the gas station to ask the night shift worker if the manager of the laundromat had removed the books, however this did seem unlikely as the signs were still in tact. The worker confirmed my logic and said no one had spoken against the appearance of the books and she was sure it was just people picking up the books as the drop point is designated for.
Even the Star Trek books moved so I guess I will be depositing the remainder of the Star Trek books to this drop point as they didn't move in Flint for nearly a year and upon last inspection at the Byron drop point hadn't moved there either... however the Byron drop point is so far our most inactive drop point having been checked on two day's post set up and not a single book had moved.
I may have to find a new location for the Byron drop point, I will give it a few weeks to determine.
Beyond the Star Trek books I myself am at a loss for denotable material right now so the program will come to a lull until I muster up a collection of books to donate again from my own personal funds which are... nearly non existent, I rely on my mothers donations to keep my own donations going.
So please drop off your used books you don't think you will be re-reading at any of our drop points.
Stay posted to see where other books are dropped. At our drop points you can drop off books you have read or pick up anything that looks interesting, even both but its not required. We at FreeBookUs just want to make sure that everyone who wants to read - can. Starting locally we hope to grow nationally and hopefully internationally.
Visit our Locations page to find a drop point near you. Don't see one and are interested in starting one? Visit our About page to learn how! We have made it simple and have done / will do as much of the work as we can for you!
Feeling generous but don't have books to donate? You can donate a monetary sum which will be used to purchase books from better world books for our drop points. Including reference, how to, and authors not seen at all or often. Please visit our donations page to learn more.
Thank you for your participation and enjoy!
