About us

Community based "take a book, leave a book" program.  Currently serving Mid-Michigan but we encourage anyone, anywhere to join and build on our community.

Not everyone who reads books re-reads them and they pile up quickly.  Going to a donation center is sometimes out of the way, despite drop points for various organizations being placed in parking lots everywhere for things such as shoes and clothes or books we go blind to these things in our daily rushes.

Plus I thought... why should I cart something somewhere for someone else to gain a profit off of?  I would rather give things away, specially to someone who would like such luxuries but are taxed by needs and can't afford them.  I however am one of these people, the books I get come from other people and I pass them on so I can't afford additional expense to get these books to people so I had to think...

Then it hit me, I'm in waiting rooms a lot where the people are at a higher probability of being taxed financially like me.  They are waiting so they have time to notice the display and browse, plus I could approach the places I go to and not deviate from my designated fuel budget to sustain the project.

How it works

I supply the signs, a stack of books on one of my visits for an appointment.  If they agree I set up the display in a designated area.  I have been doing this for a little over a year; given it's still going I thought I would create an online community for the project.

48 hours before I make a drop I take photo's of the books and tweet them from @FreeBooksMich and announce where I will be dropping them off at.  Unless I am searching for a new place, then that is tweeted later.

In tandem with the twitter account the blog is then updated with detailed summaries of the books and place they will be dropped.

Post drop a confirmation tweet and blog post is made.

Make your Book Drops Count!

Take a photo of the books you will be dropping off and post them to your twitter account, make sure to tag our community in your post (@FreeBooksMich).  Be sure to include where you will be dropping them and we will retweet your post in our community and feature your photo on the blog.  Your donation will also be included in our monthly donation tally posts.

Want one of our drop points in a waiting room near you?

Download one of our PDF signs (see downloads).
Print sign.
Take sign and books to the waiting room or location of your desire and explain your intentions to the staff, with their permission set up your display.

Don't like our sings?  More will come... when we get bored.  Until then you can download the PDF QR codes and media logo's from the same source and make your own sign with the community and program information.

Don't like the versions of media logo's we chose?  If you want to use a different blogger or twitter logo for your sign, I can not nor would I want to stop you- let your creativity fly.
